Weekly Reflection
Weekly Reflection
This week something that I improved on was my Spanish on DuoLingo, I got to a higher level and did a couple of lessons. Something that I achieved from my weekly goals was starting my language milestone, I am almost finished now. Something that I need to improve on is keeping focused sometimes and not messing around with my friends. My goal for next week is to complete my learning languages Milestone.

Two teenagers rescued from catacombs
Yesterday on the 19th of June two teenagers were rescued from the catacombs beneath Paris after getting lost. These catacombs are over 250 kilometres long but only 2 kilometres are open to the public, the teenagers were stuck in the tunnels for three days and no-one has ever been stuck in the 2 kilometres of the tunnel before and as well as having been stuck in there for so long they both had hypothermia. I think that they are kind of stupid seeing that no-one has ever got lost before and that they wouldn't have brought anything such as a phone to contact anyone.

Man Jailed for 35 years for Facebook posts
A man from Thailand was jailed for 35 years after insulting the Thai monarchy through Facebook. The law in Thailand states that you are not allowed to insult ultra-rich monarchy. The man got a jail time of ten years per offence, the original sentence was seventy years but was cut down after he confessed to posting the comments. This is one of the most serious punishments ever for insulting the Thai monarchy. Personally, I think that punishment was a bit harsh seeing that it was only a Facebook post. Does the Thai monarchy even know about it? If they did I'm sure that they would get him released, that is way too harsh as a punishment!

Global Ransomware Attacks
Recently a ransomware was released on the world, this ransomware which demands about NZD $430 in bitcoin currency has been reported in 74 countries including New Zealand. The virus (WannaCry) has so seriously affected the computers in the UK that the hospitals have been forced to cancel appointments and turn away surgeries.
I am very sad and worried about this ransomware, I hope that it doesn't affect New Zealand too badly and I am very sad for all the countries that have been affected.

Plastic Eating Caterpillar could eat through waste
Researchers at Cambridge university made a discovery that the larvae of the honey comb moth which can chew through honey comb in bee hives can also degrade and eat plastic. Research shows that the larvae can break down the chemical bonds of plastic in a similar way to honeycomb. Generally it takes hundreds of years for plastic polythene to break down, these caterpillars can make a hole in a plastic bag in under an hour.

Man Smuggles 600000 eels into a Plane
On March the 9th 2017 a man in Heathrow decided to try and smuggle 600000 live endangered glass eels into Hong Kong via plane. The man's secret stash of eels was found under a pile of fish that was on it's way to Hong Kong, these eels are a delicacy in Asia, and the total weight of the eels (200kg) would've had a value of up to 2.1 million dollars on the black market.
I am glad that the border security arrested the man because otherwise he would've sold the eels and got away with further endangering the species.
I wonder why people like to eat those eels when they could eat any type of other eel.

The HoloLens
The Microsoft HoloLens.
Just last year a group from Microsoft made the Microsoft HoloLens, a pair of “glasses” that enable you to project holograms onto the walls and in the air, that only you can see. They are commercially available this year and are priced at around about $4700 and from what I have heard the money is well worth it. With the HoloLens you can do anything from conduct business meetings to playing video games to watching the rugby all using holograms projected onto the walls, if you don’t like the look of your house then you can simply make it so that it could look like a cottage or a mansion. There is much more that you can do but this blog would be thousands of words long I have barely scratched the surface of what this little gadget can do, there is so much more. And to think you can do all of this with the power of one little pair of glasses.

School So Far.
I have recently started Ngatea Primary School and I have got a very very good impression of this school, it has a positive view towards learning and has a good learning system in place. They are kind and they are good at introducing new students to classrooms, I already feel like I have been at this school all my life. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and can't wait for school each morning
